A while back, I lost a very important person in my life. The day I received the news of his passing was so painful; I had never experienced such pain before. What hurt the most was that it was sudden and unexpected. I couldn’t really make sense of it all.

One day, after a big snowstorm in upstate New York, I experienced something that brought me some peace. While I was having breakfast, I saw a cardinal outside my kitchen window staring at me. I had a house there for a long time and had never seen one before. Seeing it uplifted me.

There's a legend that says when a cardinal comes to visit, a loved one who has passed is paying a visit. After that encounter, I saw the cardinal three or four more times. This cardinal painting I’d dedicated to that special person.
