Sunflower’s legend - Acrylic
The legend of the sunflower is a fascinating tale that varies across cultures, but one of the most well-known versions comes from Greek mythology.
In Greek mythology, the story involves a nymph named Clytie who was in love with the sun god, Apollo. According to the myth, Clytie watched Apollo as he traveled across the sky in his sun chariot. However, Apollo did not reciprocate her love, and heartbroken, Clytie transformed into a sunflower. Even after the transformation, she continued to follow Apollo's journey across the sky, turning her face towards the sun.
This tale beautifully explains why sunflowers seem to turn to face the sun throughout the day, a phenomenon scientifically known as heliotropism. The story highlights themes of unrequited love and devotion.
